Frequently asked questions

What standard does this questionnaire follow?

The Global Internal Audit Standards from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), which replaced the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IPPF), effective January 2025.

Are companies required to have an internal audit function?

For listed and public companies in Indonesia, OJK requires an internal audit unit through its internal audit charter regulation. Other companies generally build one voluntarily to strengthen governance.

What is the difference between internal and external audit?

Internal audit is an independent function inside the organisation that continuously assesses the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and controls. External audit generally focuses on an opinion on the financial statements by an independent party outside the organisation.

Can a small organisation without a full-time internal audit team use this questionnaire?

Yes. The result helps assess readiness before building an in-house internal audit function or using a co-sourcing/outsourcing arrangement.
